What is the Sunrise period?

The Sunrise period of a domain registration is a special phase in which trademarks holders can pre-register names that are close or similar to their trademarks in order to avoid cybersquatting.

In order to register these domain names, the subjects must be able to prove their prior right to the name. The Sunrise period is usually used as a test period and is followed by the Landrush period and then by the general availability period.
